An information & referral service providing information to the Citizens of the Rockbridge County, Virginia area via telephone, the Internet and a periodic resource guide

The mission of the Rockbridge Area Information Line (RAIL) is to establish and operate a non-profit information clearinghouse, run primarily by volunteers, to develop and maintain an information data base of community resources and activities available to residents of Buena Vista, Lexington and Rockbridge County.  This information will be accessible to the public through various media.

The Publications Committee, one of RAIL’s committees, has the mission of developing,  printing and distributing  the RAIL Resource Guide.  The Resource Guide is a printed version of the RAIL data base that is used on the RAIL Web Site and by librarians to answer citizen telephone questions.  Publication of the Resource Guide will be accomplished  with assistance from the Data Base/Internet Committee.

The Chairman of the Publications Committee Chairman reports to the RAIL Chairman.

The responsibilities of the Publications Committee Chairman include:

    1.  Designing the Resource Guide

    2.  Coordinating  with the Data Base/Internet Committee to assure that report output from the RAIL data base conforms to requirements of the Resource Guide.

    3.  Contacts local printers to assure the best product at the least cost is being acquired.

    4.  Determines the most efficient and cost-effective method of distribution of the Resource Guide is chosen and distributes the Resource Guide to all area households and box holders.

    5.  Develops an annual budget for committee functions and provides to Secretary/Treasurer.

    6.  Apprises Volunteer Coordinator of committee needs and assists Volunteer Coordinator in recruiting appropriate individuals.
